Topic: The Club House / If you had it to do over again

I have worked hard in my life before and with less pay, less recognition, less opportunites. I know what real work is, on your feet for 8 hours barely making minimum wages, no retirement in sight. Now tell me what do you think I would do? If I had to do it all over again I wouldn’t have waited until I was 33 years old. When I retire in about 7 years I will have a decent retirement with enough money to travel which I love to do. My kids don’t have to take care of me because all I have is a social security check and medicaid. Yes the job is stressful at times but i found that its other staff members that really make the job stressful and not so much as the inmates if you are fair and consistent with them. I’m a female and I have had more problems with my fellow officers and supervisors than I ever had with inmates. God said be thankful and content in all things………If you don’t think this is for you leave cause I ain’t going no where.

Topic: The Club House / Do You Have Uniform Inspection?

Parade is a term used by the military its like standing at attention in line to be inspected while the supervisor walks up and down the line checking out the officers. We are suppose to wear a tie if we wear long sleeves to but no one goes by that rule when its cold but if we have to go to cout of any official business or a funeral we wear ties.

Topic: The Club House / Do You Have Uniform Inspection?

At one time we had to stand in line at the begining of shift and the supervisors had to inspect our uniform and document it we were not in compliance. That didn’t last long because some supervisors themselves weren’t incompliance. I personally think its a good idea because it demands unification of everyone. I think when an officer’s uniform is pressed boots shined all equipment on your belt it sets a image for all that you are a professional and you take your job serious. It should also make you feel better about yourself.

Topic: The Club House / Time Off...

Wow I’m impressed with the officer that does the blankets. I may learn to do that myself for our hospital. I think thats the best hobby I’ve seen yet. It has so much meaning. I really don’t do a lot on my days off except help with my grand kids. I do have 8 of them and one son has 4 so he always need me on one of my days off. I love to travel which I try to do at least twice a year, a cruise, a trip to Vegas something like that. I plan on taking me a 7 day cruise by myself or with my daughter. When I go with the girls I be needing a vaction from a vaction. I also like watching my favorite television shows while surfing the net. I also take online classes for my BA in Social Services. Thats about it…….

Topic: Health & Wellness / Mandated CPR On Inmates: Good Or Not So Good?

In Florida we have always been mandated to learn CPR. It was taught in the academy. I think everyone should know it because it may be a fellow officer that you save. We also have the 2 way breathing mask that is used to give CPR and you are not mandated to put your own life at risk. We have the mask available on our post or in the supervisors office. Under the good samaitain act we also can assist others that might need CPR. I think its a good technique that we all should know in any job that we have.

Topic: A Broader View / prison-sanctioned tatoo program for inmates? Good or bad?

I don’t think its a good idea because it would promote the spread of disease more. If the institution is going to supply or allow the inmates to buy the supplies and make sure that they practice safe santitized instruments then I don’t see a problem with since they do it unsafely now.
