Parenting class for female inmates - newest program in effort to end cycle of incarceration

After the Danville City Jail introduced parenting classes for its male inmates three years ago, their female counterparts expressed an interest for their own.

Now, six women are three sessions into the inaugural program, which focuses on providing healthy ways to resolve conflict, communicate and set expectations with their children. Their children range from two-year-old to 35-year-old adults.

The class, called Parenting Wisely, is the newest addition in the Danville Sheriff's Office's effort to use local resources to assist with re-entry and lowering recidivism rates with offenders.
