|Manpower the Focus of Budget Hearings for Arkansas Corrections|
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Arkansas lawmakers wrapped up Day 2 of state budget hearings, ahead of next month's fiscal session.
Wednesday afternoon, the Joint Budget Committee grilled the Arkansas Department of Correction and Arkansas Community Correction. One of the biggest issues with ADC and ACC lawmakers pointed to, is staffing.
ACC reports it has just under 58,000 probationers and parolees and nearly 450 officers to supervise them. That means the average caseload for probation and parole officers comes to 125.
ACC requested 100 additional case-carrying officers in last session, but the governor's budget/executive recommendation currently includes none.
