The Prisons Division within the Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking an exemplary and highly qualified individual to fill the role as a Deputy Director for Command B. This position is located at Headquarters in Tumwater, Washington and will be expected to travel as needed.

The selected individual for this position will play a key role in contributing to the safety of our staff and to all offenders under the Departments supervision.

Duties:
As the successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to direct operational and related program activities for the Prisons Division Command B to include; Washington Corrections Center for Women and Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women.

You will have a significant focus on gender responsive policy and procedures and the ability to exercise creativity in developing innovative solutions to manage the capacity of our women's facilities. You will oversee the on-going development of gender specific and responsive risk and needs assessments and workforce education initiatives.

Additionally, you will supervise the Administrator over Statewide Offender Programs, which includes Visiting, Mail, Drug Testing, Volunteers, Grievance, and Religious programs, and is in charge of the day-to-day strategic operations of assigned prison facilities across the state. You will ensure sound correctional practices are implemented on a continual basis through leadership, administration, and management, and that facilities meet accreditation and legal standards for operations, health and safety, and PREA.

As a member of the DOC Executive Leadership Team and Prisons Leadership Team, you will have significant influence and impact on statewide policy and procedures and provide strategic direction to ensure efficiency, consistency, and accountability of operations, programs, and services within your area of responsibility. You will build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders within the state of Washington and nationally as related to program areas and correctional issues. As an Appointing Authority for your areas of responsibility, you will oversee personnel decisions and actions, while promoting engagement and belonging among our workforce.

You will have opportunity for growth and development as you serve in the capacity of Headquarters Duty Officer and make decisions on behalf of the Secretary, on a rotational basis. In this role, you will determines how, in an emergency, incident, or significant event, the agency's operations are managed, and authorize activities and provide direction to all facilities and community corrections offices outside of normal business hours.

Qualifications:
At a minimum, candidates for this position must have:
  • A Bachelor's degree from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the US Department of Education, or a foreign equivalent.*
  • Five (5) or more years broad based, progressive experience as a manager/administrator in a Corrections, Criminal Justice, or related field.**
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience. Proven successful experience managing a staff with diverse professional experience and qualifications.**
  • Project Management and Facility Management experience.
  • Experience managing budgets tied to specific deliverables and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience with budget development and administration, as well as resource determination and deployment.
  • High level knowledge of Gender Responsivity and Trauma Informed Care as it relates to incarcerated women.
